Ford sells and supports a wide range of electrified models: the Mustang Mach-E, the F-150 Lightning, hybrid versions of the Maverick, Escape and Explorer, and the F-150 PowerBoost full hybrid. Each has a high-voltage system that must be handled correctly during collision repair.

Before the Repair Starts

Technicians follow Ford's procedure to disable high-voltage power and confirm it is safe. They identify high-voltage cables and components near the damage and protect them during the repair.

Battery Location Matters

The Mach-E and Lightning carry large battery packs under the floor, so side and underbody impacts deserve a careful inspection. On hybrids, the battery is smaller and often located under a seat or in the rear, which changes the areas we check after a collision.

The Front Trunk

Both the Mach-E and Lightning have a front trunk where a gas engine would be. Front-end collisions can damage the frunk tub, latch and seals. We inspect these and confirm the frunk closes and seals properly.

Pro Power Onboard and Charging Ports

Trucks with Pro Power Onboard have outlets in the bed and cab. Rear or side impacts can damage wiring and outlets, which we test after repairs. Charge-port doors and wiring are inspected after impacts near their location.

Heat and Paint Curing

We keep paint curing within battery temperature limits specified by the manufacturer.

Is my Lightning safe to drive after a minor collision?

If no warnings appear and there is no underbody damage, possibly. Any high-voltage warning means the truck should be towed.

Does a hybrid F-150 need special handling?

Yes. The PowerBoost system has a high-voltage battery that must be disabled first.
