What "Kia Certified" actually changes about your repair

Not a badge on the wall. Certification means we work to Kia's published procedures for your specific vehicle — and current Kia platforms have real requirements that a general body shop isn't set up for. Here's what that means in practice.

1

We work from Kia's procedures, for your VIN

Every repair starts by pulling the factory repair information for your specific vehicle — not a general approach to "a mid-size SUV." Which panels can be sectioned and where, which welds are specified, what has to be replaced rather than repaired. It's all published by Kia, and certified shops are required to follow it.

2

Hot-stamped steel can't be repaired the old way

Current Kia platforms use a lot of ultra-high-strength and hot-stamped steel in the safety cage — B-pillars, rockers, roof rails. It's what makes the car strong, and it's why the old techniques don't apply.

Heat weakens it permanently. Straightening it can crack it. On many of these components the procedure is replace, not repair — and knowing which is which is the whole point of certification.

3

EV6, EV9 and Niro EV are a different job

Kia's E-GMP platform runs an 800-volt architecture — higher than most EVs on the road. Before any body work, the high-voltage system is de-energized and locked out for the manufacturer-specified period, and the battery pack is inspected after any underbody impact even when nothing looks wrong.

The pack also contributes to the structure, which restricts what can be worked near it and rules out heat in that zone.

4

Telluride, Sorento, Sportage and Carnival need recalibration

Forward radar behind the grille emblem, a camera at the windshield, blind-spot modules in the rear quarters, and parking sensors in both bumpers. A front-end repair disturbs several of them, and each has to be recalibrated to Kia specification afterwards.

Skipping it doesn't set a warning light. It leaves lane keeping and forward collision avoidance aimed slightly wrong, which you'd only discover when you needed them.

5

Genuine Kia parts, and a paint match that holds up

Certification requires genuine Kia parts — a non-genuine reinforcement or sensor bracket changes how the structure behaves and how accurately the driver-assist systems read the road.

On colour: we read your paint code, then adjust for how the finish has actually aged on your car, and blend into the adjacent panels so there's no visible edge in daylight. Kia's multi-stage whites and reds are unforgiving of a lazy match.

6

Your factory warranty stays intact

Kia's warranty coverage is one of the main reasons people buy the brand, and a repair done to factory specification with genuine parts by a certified facility doesn't affect it.

The risk runs the other way: a repair that departs from Kia's procedures can create problems a later warranty claim won't cover, because the cause traces back to the repair rather than a manufacturing defect.

Kia collision repair — your questions

What Kia owners in Los Angeles ask us before booking a repair.

What does "Kia Certified" actually mean for my repair?

It means we're required to repair your vehicle to Kia's own published procedures — pulled for your specific VIN, not a general approach to a similar-looking car. Which panels can be sectioned and where, which welds are specified, what must be replaced rather than repaired.

Certification also requires specific equipment and training, verified by the manufacturer rather than claimed by the shop. If you'd like documentation before booking, ask and we'll send it.

Will a collision repair affect my Kia warranty?

No — provided the repair is done to factory specification with genuine parts by a certified facility. Kia's warranty coverage is a major reason people choose the brand, and protecting it is part of what certification exists for.

The risk runs the other way. A repair that departs from Kia's procedures — wrong parts, wrong welds, heat applied to steel that can't take it — can create problems a later warranty claim won't cover, because the cause traces to the repair rather than a manufacturing defect. You leave here with documentation of exactly what was done.

My EV6 / EV9 was damaged — is the repair different?

Yes, substantially. Kia's E-GMP platform runs an 800-volt architecture, higher than most EVs on the road. Before any body work begins the high-voltage system is de-energized and locked out for the manufacturer-specified period, and only then does the repair start.

If there's been any underbody impact — a kerb, debris, a low obstacle — the battery pack gets inspected even when nothing looks wrong from outside. The pack also contributes to the structure, which restricts what can be worked near it and rules out heat in that zone.

Practically: EV repairs take longer than the same damage on a gas car, because of the shutdown and restart procedures at both ends and the extra inspection step. We'll give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one.

Do the cameras and driver-assist systems need recalibrating afterwards?

Almost always, and it's the step most commonly skipped elsewhere.

A Telluride, Sorento, Sportage or Carnival carries forward radar behind the grille emblem, a camera at the windshield, blind-spot modules in the rear quarters, and parking sensors in both bumpers. A front-end repair disturbs several of them, and each has to be recalibrated to Kia specification.

Skipping it doesn't set a warning light — it leaves lane keeping and forward collision avoidance aimed slightly wrong, which you'd only find out about when you needed them. Every vehicle also gets a pre- and post-repair diagnostic scan, and you get the results.

Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

No. Under California law your insurer cannot require you to use a specific repair facility — you choose. Tell your adjuster you're bringing the vehicle to Regal Repair and we handle the claim from there.

We work with every major carrier while remaining fully independent, which means our obligation is to you and to Kia's repair procedures rather than to an insurer's cost targets. There's a fuller explanation of your rights here.

Will you use genuine Kia parts, and how long will it take?

Genuine Kia parts — it's a condition of the certification we hold. When an insurer's estimate specifies aftermarket parts instead, our estimators negotiate directly with the carrier citing Kia's own repair procedures, and you'll know about any remaining cost gap before work starts rather than at pickup.

On timing: a cosmetic repair can be a day or two, a panel repair and refinish two to four days, structural work longer. The honest answer about delays is that they almost always come from back-ordered parts or slow insurer approval rather than the repair itself — and if either affects your vehicle, you'll hear it from us the same day with a revised date.

Send us photos of the damage and we'll tell you what your Kia needs.
