The side streets off Magnolia, Chandler, and Riverside were laid out for a lot fewer cars than park on them today. Cars sit inches apart overnight, and doors open into doors. This is the single most common dent we see — a shallow, round ding on a door skin, paint completely intact.

Tight helical ramps, concrete pillars set too close to the stalls, and low clearance beams. A pillar catches a rear quarter panel as you swing out of a space and drags along it. That produces a creased dent with the paint scraped down to primer — which rules out paintless repair from the start.

Sloped lots plus loose carts is a reliable combination. A cart rolls into a rear door or quarter panel and leaves a sharp dent with a raised ring around it. If the cart hit corner-first the paint may be chipped; if it hit broadside, usually not.

Rock kicked up by a truck at 65 mph hits the hood or roof hard enough to stretch the metal and break the finish in the same instant. These look small and are deceptively involved — stretched metal has to be worked back down, and the paint has to be refinished regardless.
