When people talk about an Audi frame, they usually mean the unibody structure: rails, aprons, pillars and floor that form the car's skeleton. After a collision, that structure can shift by a few millimeters, which is enough to throw off panel gaps, wheel alignment and sensor aim.
Straightening begins with measuring. The car is mounted on a bench and compared with Audi's published dimensions at dozens of reference points. The measurements show which points have moved and in which direction, which tells the technician how to pull, and whether pulling is even allowed.
Audi structures include ultra-high-strength steels that can be weakened by heat, and aluminum parts that crack if bent too far. For many of these components, Audi does not permit straightening at all; kinked or cracked parts must be replaced or sectioned at approved locations. A good shop follows those limits rather than forcing parts back into shape.
When straightening is allowed, multiple controlled pulls are made while the car is anchored. Technicians relieve stress gradually and remeasure after each pull. Once dimensions are within tolerance, new parts are fitted and the car is measured again.
Only when the structure measures correctly do we hang panels, set gaps and move on to paint. A final alignment check confirms the quattro drivetrain and steering are centered.
If the repair follows Audi's procedures and dimensions are restored, the car's structure should perform as designed. Parts that must be replaced are replaced.
