On many Audi models, front fenders are made of aluminum. They wrap closely around the headlamp, hood and wheel arch, so even modest damage can affect how several parts line up.
Aluminum does not have the same memory as steel. It work-hardens when bent, and it can tear if it is pushed too far. Minor dents can often be repaired with careful heat control and aluminum-specific tools. Larger damage, sharp creases or stretched metal usually means replacing the fender.
People often call the rear body sides fenders too, but on an Audi they are welded or bonded quarter panels, part of the structure. Damage there is a structural repair with different rules. We explain which applies to your car.
