Hyundai's electric IONIQ models are built on a dedicated EV platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing very fast charging. Hyundai also sells hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of popular models such as the Tucson, Santa Fe, Elantra and Sonata. Each needs specific handling in a collision repair.
Higher voltage raises the stakes for safety. Technicians disable the high-voltage system using Hyundai's procedure, verify it is safe and wear appropriate protective equipment. Only trained staff work near high-voltage components.
On IONIQ EVs, the battery pack spans much of the floor. Underbody strikes and side impacts are evaluated carefully, and the pack housing and mounts are inspected before the vehicle is cleared.
Many IONIQ models include Vehicle-to-Load, which lets the car power external devices through the charge port or an interior outlet. After collisions near these components, we check that charging and V2L functions work correctly.
Hyundai hybrids place their batteries under the rear seat or cargo area. Rear impacts get extra scrutiny, and the system is disabled before repairs near high-voltage cables.
