What happens to your car, day by day

Most collision repairs at our North Hollywood shop run 3 to 14 business days. Here is every stage your vehicle moves through, roughly how long each takes, and exactly when you'll hear from us.

  1. 1

    Intake and free estimate

    Day 1

We photograph the damage, decode your VIN to pull the factory build sheet, and write a line-by-line estimate using OEM repair procedures. If the car isn't drivable, we arrange pickup within a 20-mile radius.

You leave with a written estimate and a target completion date.

  2. 2

    Insurance review and approval

    Days 1–3

We submit the estimate to your carrier and negotiate on your behalf — including pushing for genuine OEM parts where an aftermarket substitute was proposed. Under California law you choose the shop, not your insurer.

We call you the moment your claim is approved. You never chase the adjuster.

  3. 3

    Teardown and blueprinting

    Days 2–4

We disassemble the damaged area down to bare structure. Collision damage hides behind panels — bent reinforcements, cracked brackets, compromised sensor mounts. Anything found here goes to your insurer as a supplement.

This is the one stage where cost and timeline can change. We call you before any supplement is submitted — no surprises at pickup.

  4. 4

    Structural and body repair

    Days 3–8

Frame and unibody damage is measured against factory specifications and pulled back into tolerance. Panels are repaired or replaced, welds are made to OEM specification, and aluminum work is done in a dedicated, isolated bay to prevent cross-contamination.

Photo update sent once structural work passes measurement.

  5. 5

    Refinishing and color match

    Days 6–11

Your paint code is read and computer-matched, then adjusted for how the finish has actually aged on your car. We spray a waterborne system, blend into adjacent panels so there's no visible edge, and cure in a downdraft bake booth.

100% OEM color match guarantee — backed by our lifetime warranty.

  6. 6

    Reassembly and ADAS calibration

    Days 9–13

Trim, lighting, and glass go back on. Any parking sensor, forward radar, camera, or blind-spot module disturbed during the repair is recalibrated — static, dynamic, or both, per the manufacturer. Wheel alignment and a road test follow.

Skipping calibration leaves your safety systems misaimed. We don't skip it.

  7. 7

    Quality control and delivery

    Days 11–14

A final inspection checks panel gaps, paint finish under corrected lighting, torque specs, and every electronic system. The car is washed and detailed, and we walk you through what was done before you sign.

You go home with your warranty documentation and a full repair record.

What actually causes delays: back-ordered OEM parts and slow insurer approvals — almost never the repair work itself. If either happens on your vehicle, you'll hear it from us the same day, along with a revised completion date.

Collision Repair FAQ

How much does collision repair cost?

It depends on the damage, the parts and whether structural or ADAS work is needed. A scuffed bumper is a very different job from a bent frame rail, so we quote every repair in writing after a free inspection. If you are going through insurance, we write the estimate to the manufacturer's procedure and handle supplements with your adjuster, so your out-of-pocket cost is usually just your deductible.

How long does collision repair take?

Most collision repairs at our North Hollywood shop take 3 to 14 business days. Cosmetic work such as a bumper or single panel is at the short end; structural, aluminum and EV repairs take longer. Back-ordered parts and slow insurer approvals cause most delays, and we tell you on day one if your repair is likely to be affected.

What is the difference between auto body repair and collision repair?

Collision repair is everything needed to return a car to pre-accident condition after a crash: structural and frame repair, panel replacement, refinishing, ADAS calibration and safety scans. Auto body repair is the broader term and also covers non-accident work such as dents, scratches, hail damage and paint. Regal Repair does both at the same shop.

Should I use a dealer or an independent collision repair shop?

What matters is certification, not the sign out front. An OEM-certified independent shop like Regal Repair uses the same factory repair procedures, tools and genuine parts a dealer body shop would, and many dealers send their collision work to certified independents. Ask any shop which manufacturer certifications it holds for your make.

Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

No. California law lets you choose your repair shop. Regal Repair works with all major insurers, including State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers and Mercury, and can manage the claim with your adjuster for you.

Does Regal Repair use OEM parts?

Yes. We use genuine OEM parts and follow manufacturer-approved repair procedures, and every collision repair is backed by our written lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.
